Resume

2015 - 2022

Ernst & Young

Payroll SME

EY logo.jpg

Of the 12 years that I worked for EY, the last 7.5 years I spent focusing on Payroll and building my knowledge up to become a technical expert. Throughout that time, I completed a total of 24 projects of various sizes, ranging from large scale, end-to-end process reviews and remediation activities to small scale assessments (such as reviewing leave accruals). I have remediated reconciliations, sample tested pays, tested the design and operating effectiveness of controls, produced headcount budgets, built workers compensation premium allocation models and led large scale underpayment calculation modelling and employee repayment projects. The fantastic exposure I received from working in a Big 4 environment means that you get a top quality resource but for a much lower charge out rate then you will pay if you work with the Big 4.

Experience

2022 - Present

Pay Cheque

Contractor

Having worked 7.5 years as a Payroll SME for EY, I created my own business, offering Payroll expertise as an end-to-end technical specialist at a fraction of the Big 4 cost. I offer low cost diagnostic services to help you to understand the level of risk of non-compliance in your business.

I also work closely with employment lawyers and modelling teams (your own internal team, or ones that I can recommend) to deliver large scale underpayment calculations. With a wealth of experience across all processes completed in payroll, I have the knowledge and expertise to identify risks, issues, control gaps and non-compliance. I can then work with you to create solutions and tools to help remediate and reduce the risk of non-compliance.

Education

2009 - 2012

Insitute of Chartered Accountants Scotland

Chartered Accountancy Qualification

I obtained my Chartered Accountancy qualification whilst working as an external auditor for Ernst & Young in the UK. I am a registered member of ICAS and maintain my membership by completing the required continued professional development study and training each year, although my technical focus is on payroll technical training and keeping up to date with changes in legislation.

2001 - 2005

Loughborough University

BSc (Hons) Accounting and Financial Management

I was one of 5 students in my year to get a first class degree in Accounting and Financial Management. This was a 4 year course with a year placement completed in year 3. I spent this working as an external auditor for Tenon. Upon completing my degree, I spent 4 years working in sales (Danone, McCain, Training 2000) before joining EY in 2009.
